Sounding Line Partners · London

Commercial strategy for the technologies powering and cooling AI — and the energy value chains behind them.

We advise investors, acquirers and scale-ups across the thermal chain — fluids, cooling systems and energy infrastructure — and across the fuels and lubricants industry: what to buy, how to price it, and how to take it to the customers who matter.

The practice

For investors & acquirers

Soundings

The service we take our name from

n. — depths taken with a sounding line before a vessel commits to a channel.

Commercial due diligence and deal support on cooling, fluids and energy-infrastructure targets: market reality, customer quality, pricing power, qualification risk. Two-to-four-week sprints, fixed fee, written for an investment committee.

You leave with: a defensible view of the revenue line — before you pay for it.

For scale-ups & new units

Passage Plans

n. — the navigator's charted route from berth to berth.

Go-to-market and category-building engagements of six to twelve weeks: pricing architecture, OEM and hyperscaler qualification roadmaps, channel design, commercial governance — the playbook that built categories at a $2.5bn business, applied to yours.

You leave with: a priced, sequenced route to the customers that decide your market.

For boards & leadership teams

Pilotage

n. — a pilot boards to guide the ship through waters they know, then hands back the helm.

Fractional commercial leadership and advisory board seats: one to three days a month of senior commercial judgement inside your team — pricing calls, key-account strategy, deal negotiation, hiring the commercial organisation.

You leave with: a commercial function that outlives the engagement.

Where we work

Data-centre cooling & power

AI has made thermal management a strategic bottleneck — and a consolidating market where fluids, hardware and services are converging. We work across that chain.

  • Direct liquid & immersion cooling — vendors, fluids, services
  • Dielectric fluids and power infrastructure
  • Hyperscaler, colocation and OEM qualification
  • Commercial diligence for thermal-chain M&A

Fuels & lubricants

A margin business in a commodity costume: flat volumes, compounding value, and a decade of ownership change. We know where the profit pools sit — and where they're moving.

  • Lubricants, base oils and specialty fluids strategy
  • Pricing architecture and commercial governance
  • Brand, channel and OEM programmes
  • Portfolio, energy-transition and M&A support

Marine & the energy transition at sea — where we come from

The founder spent a decade at sea — tanker operations culminating in command — then led crewing and training for a major ship manager. For shipowners and ship managers, we advise on the commercial side of going green (fuels and lubricants transition, efficiency economics), on M&A and consolidation, and on crewing, training and operational-excellence transformation.

The founder

Sounding Line Partners was founded by Sundeep Kamath, previously Innovation Team Leader at Shell Lubricant Solutions, where he led products, brand and strategy across a $2.5bn global portfolio.

At Shell he pioneered the company's Intel-accredited data-centre immersion-cooling solution, led the venture investment in cooling scale-up Asperitas — engaging Microsoft, Alibaba and Jio — and built the MIDEL dielectric-fluids business serving the power infrastructure behind today's AI build-out. Before the boardroom he went to sea: a decade in tanker operations culminating in command, followed by ship-management leadership in crewing and training, where the sounding line was not a metaphor but a working instrument — and reliability was not a slide but a job description.

MBA, London Business School. Master Mariner. Based in London; working across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Pioneer

Built new commercial categories from zero — immersion cooling to Intel accreditation, e-fluids with OEMs from BMW to BYD.

Operator

$2.5bn portfolio leadership; global pricing strategy and governance; $55M incremental sales through an AI-integrated demand engine.

Deal-maker

Two M&A transactions from origination through synergies to integration; corporate venturing with Shell Ventures.
